Our History
J&E K9 started in 1984 after Ed Nicks was transferred to the K9 Section of the Midland Police Department. People often asked Officer Nicks to train their dog like his first police K9 (Joll) was trained. Noticing the demand for qualified canine training, he decided to launch J&E K9 Academy out of his home with his wife Jan (the “J” in J&E). They started conducting obedience classes at parks around Midland as a part time “side hustle.” In 2003, after 33 years in law enforcement, 22 of those years in the K9 Section working with four different street dogs, Sergeant Nicks pulled the pin (retired) and started focusing on J&E K9 Academy full time. In that same year, he was also invited to partner with Alderhost International to help train police dogs in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Altogether, Sergeant Nicks has well over 35 years of experience working with, and training civilian, police, and professional dogs. His expertise gained over this long history sets him apart from other dog trainers out there. We are a small company with a mission to help you and your companion become a great team, and your dog to be a valued member of your family. Contact us to hear more and prices and trainings!
